I've come over all girlie, so unlike me!

I've had this material kicking about for a while and have used it for a few sewing experiments, but as it was soooo expensive haven't been brave enough to make it into something. But yesterday I threw caution to the wind, reduced down the Sidewalk Satchel pattern by about 70% (oh the maths made my head hurt) and this is what I ended up with. Now I'm not one for girlie stuff but even I think this is really quite cute. Tried a different sort of flower corsagey thing which works well.

Going round the bend

Attempted making the sidewalk satchel last night. Well, I ask you. Trying to sew a straight edge against a curve whilst wrestling with awful cheap interfacing made me MAD. Still, sort of managed, but then ended up dreaming about sewing in circles all night. Nice!

A lovely little bag outside Hair

Yes, I found myself going to Hair last week. No, I don't quite know why either. However, I spotted this little beauty on a delicate wrist and it stopped me in my tracks. What a darling little thing and so cool. Unlike anything I've seen before. I want one.

Now that's what I call a handbag

The Becci Bag

Loving this one made from pinstripe denim. The pleaty stitchy business looked better on the wrong side and so it now has pride of place on the main panels of the bag. I knocked this one up as a quick test so felt free with it and it turned out great. I must remember to not be precious when making things for others as I get all tense and anxious.

Making boy stuff

See? I can make things that aren't girly. An A4 book cover for my brother who we all hope will finally get round to writing the book that we all know he has inside him. I'd like to think this cover will spur him into action!

This one is heading oop north...

A bag for myself

Slightly wierd proportions so I've kept this one for myself. Made out of The Huswife's old jeans, I love the ripped bit.

More to come

I haven't posted much recently, but that doesn't mean there's nothing going on! I have been playing around with material and making a few bits and pieces but just haven't had the time to take piccys and get them up here. I will do soon though as I'm about to go onto a 4 day week, and I rather suspect I'll be using that day off in pursuit of sewing excellence!

My lack of knowledge about material is causing some problems - ie what goes together, how they reacte in different conditions and I've bought material that (I thought) was nice, only to find out when it's home that it's pretty dire and I've got metres of the stuff. Hey ho. You live and learn.

Making things for people can be a tad stressful

My lovely Big Sis asked me to make a bag for friend. Open brief. Scary. So I made two and this is the one that has been chosen. I'm still sort of in experimentation mode, so I tried some new things - gathering along the middle, a magnetic closure and I think it has turned out well. I hope Big Sis likes it, and I hope it cheers her friend up.
